Importance of multimedia quality • In this document, using the term of “multimedia quality” as the meaning of a quality of reproduction of audio and video (and data) of multimedia for user experience.Multimedia quality is a important factor of TC100 category, because; • Each multimedia equipment, devices and systems should guarantee its quality of reproduction. • Also, in a system configuration of audio, video and multimedia, a total quality should be guaranteed.

  3. Multimedia quality problems in use AV Server DVD AV Amp DTV Lip-sync is funny? ?? Colour is not natural. Voice is not clear. Audio level is not good. Unbalance surround sound! Expensive system, but sometimes quality is not good!

Examples of multimedia quality • For Audio and video • AV Synchronization or lip-sync (TC100/IEC 62312) • and more • For Audio (with video) • Loudness • Surround quality • Reproduction quality • Audio measurement (TC100/IEC 61606) • and more • For Video • Colour management (TC100/TA2/IEC 61966) • Reproduction quality • Video quality measurement • and more

Problem • The definition of vocabulary is not clear. • Example • “loudness” is used in many meanings. • Lip-sync and AV synchronization are confused. • Surround and multi-channel are same? • System model is not clear. • There was no system model such home theater in TC100, also the new TA9 studies home network system.System models and reference model for multimedia quality should be made.

  6. Proposal: To begin studying multimedia quality • Clarify the system models and its definitions in various usecase, then make reference models • Define vocabularies for multimedia quality
