  2. FRDC research has found Barramundi is the most readily identifiable species, but also one of the poorest public perceptions

  3. Purpose • Develop an online whole of supply chain one stop shop. • Promote the ‘best practice’ guidelines to both current farmers and new comers to the industry • Aqua Tick will • increase your sales and • your returns and • ensure the safety and eating quality of your product to consumers

  4. The “How and Why”?

  5. Why should we care? How does it affect us? • Pork industry found the tick led to higher prices and/or the ability to sell product more easily. • Farm commitments make leaving the farm difficult. • Establishing an online environment that will aid in the information transfer of best practice guidelines established with industry, government and scientists.

  6. Why help competitors produce better fish?   • Fish/raw product difficult to establish a brand. • Every time a competitor sells poorly farmed product – We all lose another potentially life long customer.  • Assist to bring unity between states in laws/regulations surrounding aquaculture.

  7. Industry, competitive and customer intel. • Get closer to our customers and find out what they need and value. • Little difference between farmed fish and other farmed products. Consumers are still hesitant. Why? • Differentiate our product from imported and poorly farmed product • Increase consumer demand in an era where "carbon footprint" and "buy local" are important considerations for many consumers.

  8. Industry Direction • Our industry needs a meaningful voice. Powerful Branding Industry Recognised endorsements In Program Advertising Sponsored Segments Advertising Outdoor, Print, Television

  12. QA Concept – Aqua Tick WORKLOAD REQUIRED

  13. QA Concept – Aqua Tick • Developed into a full quality assurance program whereby a farmer, or anyone along the supply chain can access information.

  14. QA Concept – Aqua Tick • By testing and assessing farmers who choose to participate in the scheme an "Aqua tick" place on product that meets or exceeds the guidelines. The "Aqua tick" would be an indication to customers of: • Producers working to highest standards • Reassurance for customers • Tangible differences between domestic and imported product • Quality Assurance • Value for money

  15. QA Concept – Aqua Tick • The site will not be comprehensive as to rival university or tafe education programs. Instead an important addition to a solid knowledge base. • It will provide farmers with the up to date Best Practice details required to enter and continue to succeed within the industry.

  16. Conclusion • To utilise the Aqua tick concept and website; • To lift public profile; • Profit from the introduction of an industry QA program.
