  7. What is our business? • …to provide navigators around the world with all nautical information necessary for safe navigation, and our strategy is based on co-operation with national HO’s and the support of ECDIS and ECS manufacturers and end-users. • This includes both: • The “Electronic Chart” in ECS and ECDIS • Providing up to date Vector Charts in or own database – Professional+ • Providing up to date ENCs, both in S57 format and our SENC format • The “Information part” in the information system, like ECDIS • Provide additional information in complying ECS/ECDIS • We are NOT a HW provider • We are dependent on systems in the marked able to use our data

  8. How do we operate? • By cooperating with ECDIS/ECS manufactures (OEM’s) in the market • Providing our SDK (Software Development Kit), containing all Jeppesen functionality • The OEMs determine which functionality they will implement • The functionality can be tailored by the OEMs, in order to fit the ”look and feel” of their own system • By constantly developing our SDK – consequently constantly developing the OEM’s • By providing our customers up to date information • Charts • Weather information

  9. The Jeppesen OEM concept

  10. Some OEM figures Around 100 qualified system manufacturers have implemented C-Map Jeppesen technology 34 qualified manufactures of Type Approved ECDIS systems have implemented our SDK Around 70 qualified manufactures of ECS, AIS, Simulators, Survey, VTS, Fleet Management systems etc.

  11. Electronic Charts Contribution to e-Nav

  12. Jeppesen Charts • Are really Jeppesen, or C-Map, only an unauthorized chart provider of ”private” charts ??? • NO, definitely not ! • C-MAP has always been an industry driving force • Aiming for quality ensured navigational data to the end users • Jeppesen contributes to the ENC production and distribution in several ways • By facilitating high quality production and supplying production tools • To ensure ENCs distributed to the end users in a secure and efficient way

  13. Jeppesen ENC activies • ENC production tools • Jeppesen offer dKart SW solutions to HOs for ENC and paper chart production • Used among others by UKHO and the Norwegian HO • Used by several military agencies (FFI, FMGT) • ENC QA tools • Several HOs and agencies involved in ENC production and distribution use Jeppesen dKart Inspector in order to verify their ENCs to the IHO S57 standard • ENC production • C-Map has been the executive producer of ENC’s for several national HO’s • C-Map has supported several nation’s ENC production

  14. Jeppesen ENC • Jeppesen are authorized distributer of ENCs • both in S57 format • as well as in our own SENC format • Jeppesen will continue to support end-user customer when transferring from various un-authorized charts to ENCs when ECDIS become mandatory • Jeppesen believes in SENC distribution of ENC

  15. ENC distribution on S57 format ENC distribution in S-57 format from Hydrographic Offices ENC distribution in S-57 format from Hydrographic Offices ENC encrypted in the S-63 format ENC encrypted in the S-63 format Multiple CD’s sent to the vessel Only licensed charts are installed Decryption of ENC Verification of ENC Compilation from S-57 to onboard SENC Multiple DVD’s from different sources sent to the vessel Installation of multiple DVD’s Decryption of ENC Verification of ENC Compilation from S-57 to onboard SENC If error or warning messages appear, who decides how critical they are?

  16. Jeppesen ENC • The Jeppesen SENC format is Type Approved • SENC distribution is accepted by most HOs • Jeppesen SENC database contains most of the current worldwide coverage of ENCs on one DVD • All charts installed, but only licensed charts available • Easy to add new chart licenses if required • All charts are converted and validated on-shore • Errors are reported back to HOs for correction • SENC format provide: • Increased speed of chart loading onboard • Easier way of ENC handling onboard

  17. In addition.. • Jeppesen has Global Coverage of vector charts • C-MAP Professional+ • Used by the majority of professional marine navigators • Intended for use in ECDIS and ECS • Weekly updated based on NtMs • ISO 19379 Certified

  18. The Dual Fuel concept • ENCs and Professional+ supplied and stored in the same format. • Vector-vector • Seamless merging, both horizontally and vertically • No switching between databases • Avoid sailing into black ”holes”, where no ENCs available • Equal presentation and functionality • Supported by the same Online Update Service

  19. Quality Symbols Not assessed data Aid to Navigation Paper Equivalent (SOLAS CPT 19)

  20. The Dual Fuel concept ENC only ENC and C-MAP Professional+

  21. The Dual Fuel concept ENC Coverage Professional+ Coverage

  22. Integrated Information Contribution to e-Nav

  23. Heavy Weather Damage (Roll) - cost/benefit of a good weather forecast ....

  24. Making the ”IS” in ECDIS come alive • By utilizing the vector charts possibilities as an electronic gateway to other types of information needed for decision support and safe navigation Available today in ECS and some type approved ECDIS: • The electronic sea chart overlaid with weather data – directly in the bridge system – World Wide Coverage • Set alarm for wind, waves and see the weather impact on your route directly in the navigation chart

  25. Making the ”IS” in ECDIS come alive World wide coverage, including official Tropical Cyclone warnings – updated every 30 minutes – directly in your navigational chart! ICE Charts Route planning support with the Jeppesen Automatic Route Finder Chart updates and even new chart editions via the Jeppesen Online update services Dynamic licensing Pay for the charts used..

  26. Specialized Functionality • Alarms - any combinations of warnings; • Weather Chart Alarms Areas • Alarms Along Route - Response calculation:Heave, Pitch, Roll - Tropical Cyclone Warnings & Ice Coverage Time series: “For a given point” or “Weather along route”

  27. OFFICIAL Tropical Cyclone Warnings

  28. Route Planning Weather Download and Display

  29. Route Planning Weather Download and Display

  30. Route Planning Weather Navigation: Compare route options to find best Navigational Route:

  31. ENC’s and Dynamic Licensing All chartsts, updates and licenses available onboard and ready for use. ENC’s licensed as required When you need a chart it is available immediately Licenses for new and replaced charts transferred automatically via C-MAP Update Service Automatic reporting of usage via the C-MAP Update Service Controlled costs via pre-set budgets and spending limits A user friendly and cost effective system

  32. Speaking from experience • Money talks… • Most vessels still sails with paper charts as the official chart • Due to price, they combine this with various un-authorized electronic charts even if ENCs are available • Hard to convert to ECDIS/ENCs • Both Flag- and Port State have to accept ECDIS as a main tool for navigation • Some still doesn’t, and the vessel needs up to date paper charts anyway • In general, use of ENC increase slowly • Has to be enforced by laws/regulations, or price

  33. What’s in the Jeppesen Future? Continue to support customers with up-to-date charts Support customers with converting to mandatory ECDIS and supplying ENCs Continue to improve the ”IS” part of our ECDIS strategy and the ”One Stop Shop” philosophy By delivering onboard decision tools By simplifying administration (e.g. chart management) By adding new functionality into the chart e.g. being able to display information such as: Onboard routing Growler warnings Whale migration areas (subject to heavy fines e.g. by USCG) Freak waves Other ”NO GO” areas
