  2. Why? • My father is a Machinist • Its interesting • I like making things • They make good money • Not high stress

  3. How I get There • Two years of precision machining at the Capitol Area Career Center • During High School I'm hoping to start working in a machine shop while going to the Career Center and get paid to go to school. • After High School I want to go to or Lansing Community College

  4. College • At LCC I want to take Manufacturing Engineering Technology Machining • This will get me a Bachelors Degree and four different kinds of certificates for the field of work

  5. What They Do • Machinists have to be very precise and accurate in their work • Machinists use tools such as lathes, mills, and CNC Machines • They make many different things, such as molds, automotive parts, bolts etc.

  6. What I Need • High School Diploma • (Optional) Precision Machinery class at Capitol Area Career Center • College classes for machining or die and tool makers

  7. Salary • Aerospace product and parts manufacturing $19.49 • Metalworking machinery manufacturing 17.90 • Motor vehicle parts manufacturing 17.06 Machine shops; turned product; and screw, nut, and bolt manufacturing 16.93 • Employment services 12.94

  8. Plan • This summer work at a shop in Williamston • Go to the Career Center next year and get paid to go to school • Take Precision Machining for a second year at the Career Center • Graduate and go to College

  9. Experiences • Helped my dad at the shop he works at and make things with him

  10. Other Facts • You don’t necessarily have to go to college to get into this line of work
