In Ti speed of sound is ~5000 m/s, so in 337nS travels ~1.6mm (and in 1ps travels .005 microns) Ti-6AL-4V properties at room temperature Thermal conductivity, k 6.7 W m-1 k-1 Specific Heat Capacity, c 526.3 J kg-1 k-1 Density, r 4430 kg m-3 Diffusivity, a (=k/rc) 2.87 x 10-6 m2 s‑1 In 337nS, heat travels around 5 microns (document 13)

  2. Using Tables and Transient Thermal Analysis • The following slide contains an animation of a transient thermal analysis. This shows von Mises stress against time. • The heat was applied as a table using results supplied by Luis Fernandez. • More work needs to be done optimising the mesh size and time steps etc. but it shows that the methods work together.
