  1. The Discipleship of One Pastor Timothy Chan Chinese Grace Bible Church Sunday, May 20, 2012

  2. Main Idea Discipleship is not merely a plan. It is a vision of God to His people. Entrusting others to ministry reveals the core concept of discipleship.

  3. Introduction The Early Church was effective in changing the world for Christ. Its vision was more than methodology or personal zeal. It is the vision of God to His people. It is, in fact, the vision of Jesus to His church. The uniqueness of discipleship is the disciple of one.

  4. 2 Timothy 1:3-7(NIV 1984) 3  I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4  Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.

  5. 2 Timothy 1:3-7(NIV 1984) 5  I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

  6. 2 Timothy 1:3-7(NIV 1984) 5  I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

  7. 2 Timothy 1:3-7(NIV 1984) 6  For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7  For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

  8. 2 Timothy 2:1-2(NIV 1984) 1  You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2  And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

  28. 2 Peter 1:3-7(NIV 1984) 5  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6  and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

  32. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 1  One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2  he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.

  33. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 3  He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

  34. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 4  When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

  35. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 5  Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

  36. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 6  When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7  So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

  37. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 8  When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9  For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken,

  38. Luke 5:1-10(NIV 1984) 10  and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”
