  11. Flash Point • Determines the temperature at which a substance produces a flammable mixture with air. • D93 Pensky Test took 40 minutes to complete • Current Test takes 10 minutes to complete • 1 ml of dodecane to calibrate • 1 ml of diesel or JP- 8 for testing

  12. Filtration and Vacuum Provides filtration to analyze contamination. Used to create vacuum to pull air for the Filtration Test.

  13. Analytical Balance • Used for weighing samples before and after testing. • Measures to 4 decimal points • Stored in case under the counter.

  14. Freeze Point • Used to determine cloud, freeze, and pour point. Previous test took 45 minutes to complete • Current test takes 10 minutes to complete • 1 ml of diesel or JP- 8 for testing

  15. Density • Used to determine the density of gases, liquids and solutions. • Current test takes less than 10 minutes to complete • 10 ml of diesel or JP- 8 for testing • Uses 6 ml of acetone for purging

  16. XRay Spectrometer • Used to measure concentrations of lead and sulfur. • Fill cup 2/3rds full (approximately 2 ml) of diesel or JP - 8

  17. Distillation • Used to calculate the distillation and volatility characteristics of a petroleum sample. • Previous test took 45 minutes to complete • Current test takes 10 minutes to complete. • 10 ml of diesel or JP- 8 for testing

  18. Oven Used for drying filtration papers for filtration test.

  19. Desiccator Used for holding dried filtration papers for filtration test.

  23. Conductivity Meter • Used to determine the electrical conductivity of a sample. • Stored in drawer #1.

  24. Refractometer • Used to determine the levels of icing inhibitors in fuel samples. • Stored in Drawer #1. • 140 ml of EGME fuel or 80 ml of DiGME fuel for testing

  28. Fire Extinguisher • This is the all-purpose fire extinguisher (5 lbs). • Stored next to the entry door near the sink.

  29. Blackout Lighting and Over-ride Provides automatic blackout lighting when door is opened and allows you to over-ride the system.

  30. Gas Detector Panel Indicates the presence of harmful levels of fumes. Alarm sounds if harmful levels exist. Master Unit Ceiling Sensor Floor Sensor

  34. Lights Standard light package utilized in the SCIPS shelter. These (4) 24 volt Spotlights provide laboratory level candle light power for complete coverage of work areas and are controlled by on/off switch and a dimmer on each light. They can be positioned as needed for optimum lighting. (8) Fluorescent lights operate on 120VAC. (4) 24 volt Blackout lights for use in blackout conditions.

  44. Prep Shelter for Purging • Open purge port • Open SPA vent When using the generator the system will not allow the Main Shelter Breaker to be turned “ON” until a purging cycle is complete. This is a safety feature that does not function while using shore power.

  45. “Sniff” Before turning the 60 amp power breakers on to power-up the shelter, you must check for the presence of flammable/explosive fumes. Assemble the portable gas detector as shown to the right and insert the wand into port in entry door to check for fumes.

  46. Prepare Generator • Open covers and stow • Install main power cable and control line from APU/ECU • Also can be operated from shore power with provided shore power cable in the system.
