  3. The Poster • Review instructions! • 4’ x 4’ • Display with velcro • Indicate all funding sources and any conflict of interest

  5. The Poster • Write Your Text • Expand on information provided in Abstract • Use same format as Abstract • Introduction • Methods • Results • Conclusions/Discussion • Implications for clinical practice • Possibilities for future studies

  6. The Poster • Consider visual presentation • Graphs, photos, x-rays, drawings • Large font size readable from 6 feet away • Highlight important sections by size, position or color • 50% text/pictures and 50% white space • Organize sections by how people read: Left to Right and Top to Bottom

  7. Common Complaints • The text is too small • Too much unnecessary data or text • Organization is confusing, without any informative headings • Glare from lamination or glossy paper makes reading difficult.

  8. Useful Design Tips • Never forget the poster’s purpose, audience and setting • Use a columnar setup • Use Arabic numerals or bullets to create a visual path • Experiment with alternate layouts to find the most effective one • Study other posters that you liked for additional ideas

  9. Type Faces and Color • Justify Left margins , not Right • Use upper and lower case uniformly • Use muted colors for background. Avoid loud or bright backgrounds • Scale: 80 font black letters for main title • 48 font for authors names and institutional affiliations • 40 font for main text headings • 24-28 font for supporting text

  10. Supporting the Poster • Presenter: This would generally be you. Dress appropriately, be professional, do not argue if you disagree with the feedback. • Handout: brief, 1 -2 page handout, synopsis of your work. Include your name and e-mail address. • Sign up List: Sign up sheet for people who are interested in more information, collaborative work, networking. • Business Card: Have your professional information ready to share.
