IMT.Update Overview • Summary of WP5D#10 • the Report be developed around 20 pages of main body • information to the regional Workshop used as relevant information in the development of IMT.UPDATE; • New structure was developed • Title • Assessment of the global mobile broadband deployments and forecasts for IMT • Structure • Introduction • Traffic and user penetration information of existing Mobile Broadband deployments(until 2011) • Trends contributing to increased demand for mobile broadband • Updated Mobile Broadband forecasts up to 2020 and beyond • Conclusion

  3. IMT.Update 1. Introduction • Scope • Global mobile coverage(90% )+ global internet penetration(30%)  huge potential for mobile broadband 2. Traffic&User penetration information(till2011) • Global IMT traffic from 2006 to 2011 • The growth rates resemble those of the fixed network 1997~ 2001 • smart phones as 13 % of global handsets, but over 78 %of global traffic. • the smart phone 24 times more traffic (79 MB/month) than the typical feature phone(3.3MB) in 2010 • Global IMT subscriber information fr 2006 to 2011 • Global 5.3 bil subscriptions amongst 6.9bil people • Regional Cases • Europe • AP cases are missing

Trends to increased demand • New type of devices • Mobile internet usage is increasing • Huge increase of mobile applications • Video traffic is growing dramatically • Media rich social networks go mobile • M2M traffic • More capable network-user experience improvement • Cost reduction and price decrease • Several policy initiatives • Potential area to increase data traffic

  5. IMT.Update 4. Updated Mobile broadband forecasts up to 2020 and beyond • Comparison with M.2072 and actual trends will be made • Projected mobile data traffic Key messages are now under consideration

Handbook SWG • A new Hand book – Global Trends in IMT is under development targeting to finalize in 2013. • a workplan and a table of contents are provided • Intend to update the Handbook on a regular basis (including info on IMT-2000 as well as new info on IMT-Adv. ([IMT.RSPEC], [IMT.UPDATE]) • Liaision to ITU-D SG2 /ITU-T SG13 /ITU-R WP4B

  7. Miscellaneous • Preparation for RA-12 • possible update of Question ITU-R 229-2/5

  8. Possible area for a CJK Joint contribution • IMT.Update • To provide AP regional traffic data until 2011 in Chapter 2 of Regional cases • To provide additional information on chapter 3 by selecting several trends • To provide CJK WP forecast data (timing to be required and if possible required bandwidth..) to chapter 4
