Paul • A successful man • Life was a Pattern for us • Growth of early church Courage - Boldness Confidence “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12

  3. Why was Paul Not Ashamed? • 1. For I KNOW Whom I Have believed.. • He knew what? He Knew HIM! • Gal. 2:20 • 2. He was Persuaded… • He was persuaded that Jesus would keep that which he had committed unto Him. Gal. 6:14

  4. Not be ashamed of HIS Name • No other name in which we can be saved.. • JESUS… Acts 4:12 • Matt. 1:21 • The church belongs to Christ and • Is called after HIS name.. • church of Christ…Rom. 16:16

  5. Not Ashamed of His Word • What He says is so important.. • John 12:48 • Col. 3:17 • Don’t add to it… Rev. 22:18-19 • Don’t take away from it…Substract “ • Don’t divide it wrongly …2 Tim. 2:15 • Don’t change it ..Gal. 1:8-10 • Matt. 7:21-23

  15. Preaching • What are we against? • What are we for? • ..Are you against adultery? Do • You commit adultery. • ..Are you against lying…? Do • You lie? • ..Are you against gossip? Do • You gossip?

  18. Romans 14:22-23 • 22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. • 23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Paul was not ashamed He was not ashamed of the “teachings of Christ” Religious leaders rejected Christ as the Messiah “Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?” John 7:47-48 “The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.” John 19:7

Salvation only through Jesus “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;” 1 Corinthians 1:23 “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” 1 Corinthians 1:27 The wise of this world had to turn to the wisdom of Jesus - 1 Cor. 3:18

  21. Some are ashamed of Christ Today Ashamed to let others know they are members of the Lord’s church Avoid discussions because others think our teachings are “strange” Ashamed to discuss one church, instrumental music, necessity of baptism, creation, virgin birth

  22. Some are ashamed of Christ Today • Afraid to speak out against evil - Eph. 5:11-12 • 11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. • For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” • Silence is an expression of embarrassment, shame.

  23. Some are ashamed of Christ Today Peer Pressure Causes some to begin doing evil things Do not want to be regarded as different We must not go along with anything that is wrong ! We must not be ashamed to let others know why we do not practice the evil.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel It takes courage to live to please God. - 2 Pet. 1:5 No need for being ashamed of Christ - 2 Tim. 1:8 Those who are ashamed of living as the gospel demands are ashamed of Christ. “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” 1 John 2:28
