  1. Status of the JINR Educational Programme S.Z. Pakuliak Active director of the JINR University Centre 107th Session of the JINR Scientific Council, 18-19 February 2010

  2. Goals of the JINR educational program are developing and proper functioning of the system of training of young scientists for the member-states and the Institute itself. The whole Institute should become a big physical practicum for the Universities of the member-states. This program is realized on the base of the University Center in the framework of the first priority topic 06-0-1078-2009/2013 "Organization, Maintenance, and Development of Education Process at JINR"

  3. Main directions of University Centre activity Students, JINR-based departments JINR postgraduate programmes International education actions Student laboratory infrastructure Secondary-school oriented activity Technical staff retraining

  4. Students at UC in 2003-2009 424students from the JINR-based departments of MPhTI, MSU, MIREA, Dubna International University (DIU) studied in 2009 at the University Center. There were also 146students from the different universities of JINR member-states.

  5. JINR-based departments Moscow State University • Elementary Particle Physics - 11 • Neutron Diffraction Studies – 13 Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology • Fundamental and Applied Problems of Micro-world Physics - 16 Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automatics • Electronics for Physics Research Installations - 79 • Information Technologies of Computing Systems – 76 Dubna International University • Nuclear Physics and Theoretical Physics - 78 • Biophysics - 83 • Distributed Computing Systems - 58 • Nanotechnologies and New Materials – 16 Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute • Heavy Ion Physics

  6. International chairs “Nuclear physics, new materials and technologies” was opened on July 9, 2008 at the Gumilev Eurasian University on the basis of the DC-60 heavy ion cyclotron of Interdisciplinary Scientific Research Center. During CP held in Astana on November 19, 2009 a four-side agreement between GEU, DIU, NNC and JINR regarding the training of bachelors and masters in nuclear physics was signed.

  7. Lecture courses at JINR-based departments • particle physics and quantum field theory – 34 • mathematical and statistical physics – 19 • condensed matter, physics of nanostructures and neutron physics – 21 • informational technologies – 15 • nuclear physics – 15 • physical equipment – 18 UC plan to create the data-base of students, who are interesting to start their scientific careers at JINR

  8. List of Proposals for PhD Theses (VBLHEP)

  9. JINR postgraduate programmes Each year about 70 people are educated at the JINR postgraduate courses starting from 1995. Among 198 postgraduate students, who finished the postgraduate studies from 1998, 53 people defended the PhD theses. Important task for the UC is to support participation of the PhD students in the scientific seminars organized by the laboratories of the Institute and other scientific centers.

  10. 5th International Summer School „Nuclear Physics Methods and Accelerators in Biology and Medicine“ Bratislava July 6-15, 2009 International education activities UC is planning to organize 6th International Summer School “Nuclear Physics Methods and Accelerators in Biology and Medicine” in Dubna on 2011

  11. International Student Practice July 6 - July 20:September 6 - 25:Oct. 19 – Nov. 6: Czech R. (12 students), South African students Students from ArabPoland (23 students) and (23 participants)‏ Republic of EgiptRomania (13 students)‏ (17 part.) Practice included about 20 research projects Practice in 2010 will be organized in May for students from ARE, in July for European students and in September for SA students

  12. Student laboratories infrastructure In cooperation with the Faculty of the Natural and Engineering Sciences of Dubna International University, the UC will create the students laboratories for learning the nanotechnology fundamentals

  13. Secondary school activities • The UC will continue to organize acquaintance visits by school delegations from JINR member states. • Jointly with CERN, the University Centre will be annually holding professional advancement courses for teachers of physics from JINR member-states. First event of this program took place at CERN on November 1-7 and was supported by the grant of the Federal Agency in Science and Innovations. • The University Centre will concentrate their efforts to advertise among school pupils the possibilities to get good education at JINR-based departments and to start scientific carrier at JINR.

  14. Visit of Polish school pupils and teachers to JINR in June 2009

  15. School for teachers at CERN

  16. School at CERN

  17. Further plans • In cooperation with CERN the UC is planning to organize the second school for teachers from JINR member-states on July 4-11, 2010 in Dubna • Program of the school will include besides the lectures and excursions to JINR laboratories the video-conferences with CERN • One of result of this activity is the organization of series of video-conferences between Russian schools and CERN

  18. Support of JINR's engineering and technical staff One of the UC's functions is offering programmes of training specialists in the maintenance of the facilities that are supervised by the Russian Federation's Technical Inspection. This activity includes training and retraining JINR's engineering and technical staff.

  19. Conclusion • The Education Programme of the JINR University Centre should be organized in such a way to resolve the issue of providing the Institute with research, engineering, and technical staff coming from its member-states • One of the main aims of the University Center is to provide conditions for involvement of the students and postgraduates from JINR member- states to the JINR scientific programmes

  20. Thank you for your attention Teachers at CERN
