  2. Where is ADEPT Selector? • ADEPT Selector can be viewed at URL: http://piru.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~buchel/ADEPTSelector/auth ADL/ADEPT - UCSB (NSF Informal Site Visit#1)

  3. What is ADEPT Selector? • A web-accessible database of networked resources • Primary function is as a research tool for investigating user needs, nature and services of ADEPT educational collections ADL/ADEPT - UCSB (NSF Informal Site Visit#1)

  4. Research Details: Questions • Q: How can DLs support scientific reasoning? • Q1. What is a “model educational collection”? • Q2. How should such collections be organized and presented in a DL? • Q3. What are the knowledge structures needed by DL services that support 1) creation of personal collections from existing ones, 2) browsing of collections in the library concept maps, 3) model selection and model building, 4) help functionality for collection building, creation and use. ADL/ADEPT - UCSB (NSF Informal Site Visit#1)

  5. Research Details: Answers • A: DLs can support the cognitive processes that underlie scientific reasoning, specifically, concept acquisition, formation, and mapping, by the organization of model collections which provide services such as a concept mapper, a recommender or personal agent, and a model selection facility. • Proposal: This project builds ADEPT Model Educational Collections. We seek to demonstrate a proof-of-concept. ADL/ADEPT - UCSB (NSF Informal Site Visit#1)

  6. ADEPT Selector – Goals & Objectives To build ADEPT Educational Collections that 1) Illustrate the characteristics of an exemplar educational collection that supports the teaching of scientific reasoning 2) Support identification of models illustrating the needed formats, types of items, and kinds of models available for classroom teaching use 3) Constructs concept maps that allow the organization and presentation of personal collections 4) Investigate ways to describe models for developing a model service ADL/ADEPT - UCSB (NSF Informal Site Visit#1)
