  6. Alchohol Trivia • The word "toast," meaning a wish of good health, started in ancient Rome, where a piece of toasted bread was dropped into wine. • The longest bar in the world is 684 feet (or about 208.5 meters) long and is located at the New Bulldog in Rock Island, Illinois • The body or lightness of whiskey is primarily determined by the size of the grain from which it is made; the larger the grain, the lighter the whiskey • One glass of milk can give a person a .02 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) on a Breathalyzer test. That’s enough in some states for persons under age 21 to lose their drivers license and be fined. • The Manhattan cocktail (whiskey and sweet vermouth) was invented by Winston Churchill's mother.

  7. It's The Law! • Anyone under the age of 21 who takes out household trash containing even a single empty alcohol beverage container can be charged with illegal possession of alcohol in Missouri. • A person can be sent to jail for five years for merely sending a bottle of beer, wine or spirits as a gift to a friend in Kentucky. • The entire Encyclopedia Britannica is banned in Texas because it contains a recipe for making beer that can be used at home. • In Houston, Texas, beer may not be purchased after midnight on Sunday, but can be purchased anytime on Monday...which happens to begin right after midnight on Sunday! So it's illegal to buy it when its legal to buy it? • In the 1940's, California law made it illegal to serve alcohol to a gay (homosexual person).

  8. Cavemen to Columbus • The early Church declared that alcohol was an inherently good gift of God to be used and enjoyed. While individuals might choose not to drink, to despise alcohol was heresy • The world's oldest known recipe is for beer. • Early Egyptian writings urged mothers to send their children to school with plenty of bread and beer for their lunch. • A Chinese imperial edict of about 1,116 B.C. asserted that the use of alcohol in moderation was required by heaven. • The first Kentucky whiskey was made in 1789 by a Baptist minister. • The first signer of the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock, was an alcohol dealer.

  9. Health and Safety • The alcohol in drinks of either low alcohol content (below 15%) or high alcohol content (over 30%) tend to be absorbed into the body more slowly • People who drink in moderation tend to be healthier and live longer than those who either abstain or abuse alcohol • If you drive after drinking, you can limit the effect of alcohol by eating and by not consuming more than one drink per hour. • High protein foods such as cheese and peanuts help slow the absorption of alcohol into the body • Beginning to drink early in life does not lead to problems later in life. • All 13 minerals necessary for human life can be found in alcohol beverages
