  1. "It ain’t so funny, him an’ me goin’ aroun’ together,“ - George doesn’t use any excuses as to why him and Lennie travel together, to him its just a natural thing for them to do – they just got used to each other. ‘With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.’ - DECLARATIVE SENTANCES = They know they are lonely but will always have each other. ‘don’t drink so much’ (George to Lennie) George is making sure Lennie doesn’t get ill- taking care of him. "But I wouldn’t eat none, George. I’d leave it all for you. You could cover your beans with it and I wouldn’t touch none of it.“ - even if Lennie really wanted something, he would give it up for George . Shows he is dedicated to George and cares for him. ”We travel together,” said George coldly.’ – ADVERB = George doesn’t care what other people think on his and Lennie’s relationship. ‘I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why.’ - DECLARATIVE SENTENCES – shows they will always be with each other, will always want to look after each other. The theme of friendship and companionship ‘don’t let ‘im sock me George!’ (Lennie to George) Lennie is reliant on George. "Made me seem God damn smart alongside of him.“ – George doesn’t necessarily like Lennie, he just likes to be in charge of someone and have responsibility over people. ‘even in the open one stayed behind the other.’ -shows they have a close relationship. ‘Lennie, who had been watching, imitated George exactly.’ - Lennie imitating George suggests that he is trying to impress George and wants George’s approval. "'A guy needs somebody-to be near him.' He whined, 'A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody.'“ - Only with each other so they don’t get lonely. ‘Both were dressed in denim trousers and in denim coats with brass buttons. Both wore black, shapeless hats…’ REPETITION ‘both’ = shows they are very good friends – exaggerates closeness of their relationship "'Ain't many guys travel around together,' he mused. 'I don't know why. Maybe ever'body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.'“ - They have a strange relationship and nobody else really understands the bond between them. Eloise Gilbart 
