  1. Save Water Preservation & Conservation Every drop of water Utilization

  2. CONTRIBUTION OFPUNJAB IRRIGATION DEPARTMENT TO SAVE WATER PREPARED BY:- KAD Administration IRRIGATION DEPTT. GOVT. OF PUNJAB

  3. WATER SCARCITY • CAUSED BY;- • Irregular pattern of seasons. • Depleting ground water . • Unauthorized and wasteful use of available water. • IMPACTS;- • Growing crops becomes costlier. • Expansion in Command Area is minimized. • Crops requiring more water need to be abandoned.

  4. PLANNING BY PUNJAB IRRIGATION • Tapping of water in seasonal rivulets by constructing series of low dams.

  5. Lining of canals (KANDI CANAL)-Loss of water due to direct seepage from unlined canal prevented.

  6. Lining of water courses->Lesser damage Saves wasteful water .>Higher heads achieved provide greater command.

  7. Piped water courses –>Evaporation losses reduced to zero.>Space lost in open water courses brought under cultivation.

  8. Keeping aloft our slogan of- • Save Energy • Save Water • Increase Revenue The research goes on……………

  9. Proposed Technologies for Water - Saving • Controlled conduct of irrigation supplies along hill slopes- To generate maximum possible hydraulic heads, useful in increasing the crop yield up to 170% • Lift Irrigation • Sprinkler Irrigation • Drip irrigation

  10. METHODOLOGY • The natural slopes in semi - hilly areas of kandi belt can be fruitfully utilised for generation of sufficient heads for irrigation facility. Larger gravity heads suitable to induce sprinkler and drip systems of irrigation are proposed to be made available by innovative design of piped irrigation deliverance system. • The highlight of this system is that no artificial generation of heads is required and the system runs WITHOUT ANY USE OF ELECTRICITY.

  11. Increase in Irrigation Efficiency

  12. BENEFITS • Expenses on electricity is NIL. • No electrification needed in the area. • Land used in field water courses saved and brought under cultivation. • Increase in command area by 50 to 70 % by way of saving in water. • Increase in agricultural yield up to 60%. • General uplift of the area and living standards of the community. • Increase in revenue to the state . • Additional food reserves for the state. • Boosting of economy.

  13. LAYOUT OF LIFT - IRRIGATION SYSTEM

  14. LAYOUT OF SPRINKLER IRRIGATION SYSTEM

  15. SPRINKLER SYSTEM • Expenses on electricity is NIL. • No electrification needed in the area.

  16. Increasing the crop yield up to 170%

  17. General uplift of the area and living standards of the community

  18. Boosting of economy
