Life (1601-1665) John Earle…… Was born in York England Went to Merton College in Oxford Rose to Eminence in the Church, had extremely strong Anglican beliefs Tutor to Charles the second of England Left England after the Battle of Worcester and wrote abroad After Restoration Earle was reinstated and became the Chaplain to Charles the Second and later Bishop of Salisbury, until 5 years later as he was at the court of Charles the second and his consort Queen Catherine he died in 1665. During all this Earle wrote essays and books, but most remembered for the characters, and his writing style.
