  1. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! March 2nd, 2010: Green Eggs and Ham Day

  2. Our great day! Tuesday, March 2nd, the Colton-Pierrepont Library Media Center celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss by having a Green Eggs and Ham Day. 2010 is the 50th anniversary of that great book! Dr. Seuss is the author of many fun books, especially for beginning readers. It was also Read Across America Day.

  3. Between 8:15 and 2:45, over 201 students and teachers listened to and read together Green Eggs and Ham. And, yes, Ms. Miller recited the book in her sleep that night… “I do so like green eggs and ham. Thank you, thank you, Sam-I-Am.”

  4. First, we talked a little about Dr. Seuss, who wrote Green Eggs and Ham using only fifty different words. He wanted beginning readers to really like what they could read. He said once that he wrote “to inspire a desire to read. But the main purpose is fun.” Ms. Miller read the story out loud. Then, using a digitized version of Green Eggs and Ham created by KidThing, a computer, and a projector; the students took a turn at reading out loud. Everybody got a Green Eggs and Ham bookmark. Of course, this was followed by our own version of “green eggs and ham” treats.

  5. As you can see in the slides that follow, some classes dressed up with The Cat in the Hat hats.

  6. One last poem in honor of Dr. Seuss Do you like Green Eggs and Ham? Reading it Tuesday, that I am. I would read it in a school. I would read it to a fool. I would read it right in here, I would read it far and near . I would read it in the nook. My, oh my, I love this book. I would read it here or there. I would read it anywhere. Do you like Green Eggs and Ham? Dr. Seuss did. I do. So did Sam.
