  2. propelled • verb • pushed or moved forward by a force or as if by one • form of the verb propel • Example: • The coach’s whistle propelled the students to the locker room.

  3. glimpse • noun • a quick look • Example: • He caught a glimpse of her in the hallway.

  4. campus • noun • the land and buildings of a school • Example: • The library was at the north end of the campus.

  5. eventually • adverb • in the end; finally • Example: • Eventually he would have to do his homework.

  6. impress • verb • to have a strong effect on • Example: • He wanted to impress his teacher with his math skills.

  7. casserole • noun • food cooked in a deep dish • Example: • The tuna casserole tasted delicious.

  8. other words to know • elective- class a student chooses to take • catechism classes- students learn about the Roman Catholic religion • Raza-style- refers to the way Mexican Americans or other Hispanic people do something • ferocity- wild, violent, anger (ferocious) • Siberia- very cold part of northern Russia • conviction- to do something with strong belief

  9. phrases to know • on the sly-done in a way so that no one notices • in unison- all together • scanning the horizon- looking far ahead to find something in the distance • looked sheepishly- acting shy; shows shyness and embarrassment

  10. foreign language • Saludo de vato- is a greeting • Bonjour- French for good day • Tresbien- very well • Parlez-vousfrancais? – Do you speak French? • Le bateau- French for “the boat” • Le bateau estsurl’eau- “The boat is on the water.”
