  7. Advice Request • MIBs • Topic prompted by email from Adrian Stephens • Email fwd’d to Arc list • Discussion • Adrian gave intro to issues he sees. • Some historical perspective given by Darwin • ASN1 in annex D used to define MIB vars (.1 influence) • Unclear rules around what MIB vars are needed and why as amendments were created. Resulted in a mix of assumptions being used by diff TGs. • Read / write vs static/dynamic variables/capabilities (ex: rx STBC) • Make internal vars not = MIB vars? Split into diff category? • Current spec readers assume all mibs vars are interfaces to an entity… David Bagby, Calypso Ventures, Inc.

  8. MIBs (continued) • Exercises which might help • Classify mib vars into capability, status, control knob, “confused/mixed perceptions” • Internal/external to an entity (entity is a block in a pic in the std) • Int/ext to what entity? • Ext => there is a protocol that communicates this between entities. • Issue: “implicit vars”; ex: tgn:” sta whose last xmitted ht op element had field x set to value Y….” • No deterministic relation between get/set of mib var and some associated action internal to an entity. • (ex: frag threshold) • This all will begin to beg for a definition of the SME and what it does…. David Bagby, Calypso Ventures, Inc.
