  3. Can you describe the difference between white and black propaganda? Did you evaluate the WWI propaganda posters? Have you created a white propaganda poster? Success Criteria

  4. Use the dictionary app to find a definition of the word ‘propaganda’.

  5. The British government wanted to encourage men to enlist for war. They said the war would be safe, hardly any fighting, a good lark and over by Christmas. Posters always showed men ready and willing to fight. They used advertising posters to encourage this idea!

  6. Black or White White Propaganda – played on people’s emotions so they believed joining the army was ‘the right thing to do’ Black Propaganda – tried to create hatred towards the Germans.

  7. Around the room there are 6 different propaganda posters. In pairs you will walk around the room and complete your grid. You must decide if it is white propaganda or black propaganda. You must give reasons for your decision. Which poster do you think would have been most effective? Explain your answer.

  8. Design your own white propaganda poster to recruit men to fight in the war. Remember, you need to make it appealing for young men to want to go and fight for their country. Try and choose words and pictures that will make people passionate about their country.
