  1. Mercer Bucks FACT Hunterdon Our Community FACT: Fighting AIDS Continuously Together

  2. Who We Are & What We Do • FACT Bucks County is dedicated to providing financial assistance as a point of last resort to those individuals living with HIV/AIDS who reside in Bucks, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties in order to maintain independence and quality of life. FACT Bucks County is also dedicated to reducing the spread of HIV through educational grants and scholarships to local community based organizations. • FACT Bucks County was established in 1992 to raise funds and increase awareness in an effort to combat the growing AIDS epidemic in Bucks, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties. We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization with one purpose; to maintain the quality of life for those affected and effected by HIV/AIDS. • Through our aggressive fund-raising efforts, FACT Bucks County is able to provide essential emergency funding to individuals in the community. When all other funding resources have been exhausted, FACT funds are available to people who have nowhere else to turn for such things as medication, electric and heating bills, counseling, special equipment, transportation, rent, and other personal needs. • In addition, FACT Bucks County awards grants to organizations that provide services to those who are HIV positive. We also conduct educational programs on HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Our educational programs include special presentations to area schools, healthcare associations and special interest groups.

  3. College Scholarship Opportunity • Increasing awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS is a key tenet of FACT. • Acquiring this knowledge before embarking upon a student’s college years is a great way to further learning at a critical time in their lives. • To foster peer-to-peer education in a safe environment where the power of contemporary language is used is an opportunity for students to arm themselves with invaluable information and for some, step-up to a leadership role and gain funding in the form of a scholarship to an accredited college.

  4. How it Works • Fall: Students submit ½ to 1 page overview to the FACT Board of why they would like to give a presentation on HIV/AIDS. • FACT Board chooses a recipient before Holiday break • In conjunction with the school sponsor, FACT will review the Student’s 30-45minute presentation to ensure factual accuracy, appropriate subject matter diplomacy and sensitivity, and meet school parameters for subject matter discussion. • Spring: Student to give presentation to school student body during school hours, recruiting a minimum of 50 students to attend the presentation.

  5. The awards: • Healthy Body scholarship: $500.00 awarded to students that have given one presentation to a body of students on the prevention and spread of HIV and have created a campaign to raise awareness and funds to support FACT in their community through our website. (http://www.firstgiving.com/FACTBucksCounty) • Healthy body and mind Scholarship: $1,000.00 Awarded to students selecting a career related to prevention, spread, or cure of HIV. Continued: • Healthy body mind and spirit Scholarship: $1,500.00 - $2,000.00: Awarded to students choosing to pursue a career in a field of social work, medical, political or otherwise that wants to use HIV as a platform. Each recipient would need to complete one year of community service relating to the area of HIV with FACT or another similar organization. They would have to do a public presentation in school or other public gathering place like a church or support group where HIV awareness is needed. This presentation would be taped and presented to the board for review. . In addition, the student must also have created a campaign to raise awareness and funds to support FACT in their community through our website. (http://www.firstgiving.com/FACTBucksCounty )

  7.
