  1. Netval and its role in exploiting research results in Italy

  2. Netval mission Netval is the Italian association for the exploitation of the university research. It has been founded in 2002 and became an association in 2007. Netval mission is to be the “university interface” for Ministries and local administrations, industrial associations and industries, venture capitalists and financial bodies to promote the role of university research in the innovation processes. • Netval general objectives are: • in the short term: to protect and exploit research results • (education, dissemination, patenting, licensing) • - in the medium term: to improve the link between universities and industries • (networking, managing research and know how contract tools) • in the long term: to generate new products and companies from academia (spin-off, infrastructures, money)

  3. to connect the Italian portfolio of patents and spin-offs at European level Netval particular objectives to identify roles and needs of the university about patentability and exploitation of research results to stimulate the exchange of best practices, procedures, tools and contract models for the technology transfer processes to link the “research world” with the “industrial world” promoting the technology transfer processes to organize training sessions, seminars and workshops to raise awareness on IPR tools and TT best practices

  13. conclusions Innovation is development of new product/service/technology based on research. Public research is at the beginning of the innovation line, industry is at the end, a part of the path should be shared in partnership. The tools should be used in agreement. The different own missions and roles should be seen as opportunities rather than disadvantages. The efficiency strongly depends on the participation of all of the four actors.
