  2. Definition • A measure of the average kinetic energy of particles in a sample of matter.

  3. What is the normal range of temperature in rivers? • Rivers usually stay at a temperature between 4°C - 25°C.

  4. What contributes to the temperatures rise/fall? • The surrounding environment • Greater amount of trees surrounding the river will expose the river to less sun. • Companies dumping waste into the environment.

  5. Disadvantages when the temperature is too hot • When water is too hot: - Fish become more active at feeding because of higher metabolisms. - Food sources become scarce because of the higher activity in the water. - Dissolved oxygen levels will decrease.

  6. Disadvantages when the water temperature is too cold • When the water is too cold: - Food becomes harder to find because it wont grow as well. - Food becomes scarce for animals living on land.

  7. Ways to alleviate any imbalance in temperature • If the water is too hot, planting trees would introduce shade to the area. • Stop any dumping of waste products if that is the problem.

  8. How to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit? • From Celsius to Fahrenheit: F= (C x 9/5)+32 • From Fahrenheit to Celsius: C= (F – 32)x(9/5)
