Our Road Map to Accurate Traffic Reporting • Weather Central’s 3D Traffic application • Traffic data ingested every minute • Traffic data from Metro Traffic • Incidents are not automatically put on traffic system which allows for independent verification • After an incident is verified, it is activated manually and an icon specific to the incident is generated and placed at correct location • Traffic report goes on-air to viewers

Verification – Through internet partners including MDOT, law-enforcement agencies, etc. • Verification internally assisted by our Assignment Desk, Producer(s), Executive Producer(s), Chopper as necessary to ensure accuracyRely heavily on these associates • We think of our “viewers” as customers – Not everybody is watchingCustomers are on Twitter, Facebook and WXYZ.com On-air, Twitter, Traffic Blog Facebook, WXYZ.com – I’m everywhereAnd, you heard it here first!!! Our new Traffic App for iPhone and Android devices (test launch in a couple of weeks with launch soon after!) • MDOT Traffic Cameras – VITAL to my reporting. Very important for visual. Customers rely on getting this visual.

  5. Redundancy • If system fails or to augment our 3D Traffic product • Google Earth • News Navigator (an in-house cousin of 3D Traffic) • UTouch – Our in-studio “tablet”

How Can We Partner to Better Serve OUR Customers • Always important to have the MDOT traffic cameras • MDOT could provide volume data for each route (this would assist us in the impact an incident has on our customers) • Development of a system that takes communications with law enforcement (for example radio comms to trooper) to automatically generate a text / email or other notification direct to me (like a voice-to-text system)
