  2. MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: ALONE Never be _____________________with one child

  3. ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU CAN BE SEEN _____________ by another person….…preferably an adult…

  4. WEAR YOUR NAME BADGE This lets parents and leaders know you are authorized to be in contact with the children.

  5. DO NOT ALLOW PERSONS WITHOUT A NAME BADGE TO HAVE ACCESS to the children you are supervising! …send them to a Hall Monitor, who will either ask them to leave or OK them to be in contact with the children.

  6. CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR THEIR NAME TAG This lets teachers/Hall Monitors know they are signed in / expected to be with teachers or in classroom

  7. CONTROL WHO PICKS UP If they don’t have the pick up tag, send them to the Hall Monitor

  8. BOUNDARIES Sitting in Lap: ok for infant, toddler, pre-K child - older children should sit on leg or beside leader Touching to Comfort or Affirm: appropriate touching to hand, arm, shoulder, back, head ok in public Hugs: side-by-side is best (avoid full body contact) Kisses: Never initiate! Always be aware of how it looks/feels To the person being contacted To onlookers Not sure? Don’t do it!

  9. PROTECTEVERYPERSON From verbal abuse: any act that threatens, humiliates or degrades this includes stopping a child from using hurtful words with another child. Tell them the language is offensive and must stop immediately.

  10. PROTECT EVERY PERSON From physical abuse: any act that endangers a person’s physical or mental health this includes stopping a child from making any physical contact with another child, including wrestling, horseplay, etc. Show child their physical space and instruct them to stay in it.

  11. PROTECT EVERY PERSON From sexual abuse: exploiting another person for sexual satisfaction this includes displaying suggestive visual material, making comments about one’s own or another’s body, touching another person, touching self, making any kind of sexual contact or statements.

  12. DISCIPLINE Gentle Reminders Redirection Time Out Involve Hall Monitor or Ministry Leader Restrain only if child is threatening to hurt themselves or someone else

  13. REPORT IT! Complete Incident Report if you have to give First Aid, Discipline, or any other extraordinary support or care If you notice/hear anything that seems to indicate any type of abuse situation (whether at Parkway or outside of Parkway), talk to Ministry Leader immediately!

  14. CHURCH CAMERA ONLY! Do not take pictures of children with your phone / personal camera unless asked to do so by Ministry Leader, in which case pictures must be downloaded/turned over to Ministry Leader and then immediately deleted.

  15. NO MEDIA! Do not post pictures or comments about children using their names to social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)

  16. COMPLETE YOUR ANNUAL REVIEW VERIFICATION Click on the VERIFY TRAINING link on the Children’s Ministry / Training page of our website. You will be prompted to answer a few questions to verify you have completed your Safe Sanctuary Annual Review.
