  6. History of the National Population and Housing Census in Iran • According to the Law, this SCI was bound to carry out the national population and housing census once each decade. So far, seven censuses have been implemented during the years 1956, 1966, 1976,1986, 1996, 2006 and 2011. Which was conducted based on • new strategy (5 year cycle) . 1

In order to develop a framework within which the management of the Census can proceed and decision can be made, the following goals were set: • Providing basic statistics at the smallest geographic levels • Developing necessary frames for sample surveys • Identifying shortages, needs and potential facilities • Evaluating previous executed policies 1 • Key goals

  13. The census was taken as De Jure, that is, all Iranian people present at their place of usual residence as well as those who may be temporarily absent from their place of residence were enumerated. The Census was conducted without sampling 1 • Type of enumeration

  14. The census was taken through interview method by completing census questionnaires by enumerators and use of PDA set for selected cities. 1 • Method of enumeration

  15. Timing and duration of enumeration The census was carried out from 24 October to 13 November 2011 for 21 days. The preliminary results were disseminated one month after the implementation. The final results will be released in end of spring 2012 1

  16. Actions taken for Census Mapping Updating Statistical maps as of 2007 Scale The scale 1:2000 was used for urban areas. The Scale 1:50000 was used for rural areas 1

  17. Developing the software of geographic files In order to disseminate the census results, a software package was developed and implemented. Based on this software, the information of the smallest area of administrative levels (block andvillage) can be disseminated. The software has the capability for some spatial analysis, search and comparison 1

Demographic questions: • Type of household, name, family name and national code of household members, relationship to household, sex, age, education, literacy, residence, date of birth, employment status,… • Housing questions: • Type of housing, type of tenure, floor area of housing, type of skeleton, Sewage disposal place, main materials of housing, postal code,facilities available to household, main fuels, main water supply 1 Census Main Items

  23. First testing was conducted in November 2009. 30 provinces , 20000 households • Second testing was taken in November 2010. 5 Shahrestans (sub-provinces) from 5 Provinces , 30000 households 1 Census testing

Training aids used in this Census • Semi-attendance training method • developing a web-based software to support,semi-attendance training method • to do daily exercise to get ready for the test by trainees, • to access the questions and various exercises( random) by trainees, • to see the results of the test based on sorted mark by trainees • To take final test by trainees • to submit the information to the central server or trainers for examination and evaluation of the mark levels and rate of learning of the trainees • Voice response through web after wrong answer of trainees • Training film 1 Training programs

  31. Developing a special software which has supported all stages of census enumerators recruitment including online registration, interview, contract and remuneration for all provinces, which was unique. Recruitment from general public 1 Recruitment

  33. 1 Monitoring Field operation • Use of IT for monitoring field operation • Use of check-list monitoring forms in stead of paper which was used in previous censuses • Developing web-based monitoring forms with the following specification: • On-line and on-time precise reporting • Quick adding up of monitoring forms by census officials • omission of hieratical reporting and simultaneous observation of reports and their adding up by census officials • Sending the request of the census headquarters as SMS, chat room or monitoring on-line system and receipt of feedback from that on-line system • Online Monitoring census supervisors
