  3. In this session we will… • Have a brief game • Formulate possible interview questions for our own chosen topics

  4. NOW LET’S HAVE THE GAME!!!

PINOY HENYO • Objective: To guess the given ‘mystery word’ • Participants: two pairs of contestants: one ‘guesser’ and one ‘clue-giver’ • Guesser: He has to guess the ‘mystery word.’ He has to infer the appropriate answer by asking Yes or No questions to the ‘clue-giver’ • Time Limit: Each ‘guesser’ has 2 minutes to guess the word correctly

  13. JUST LIKE THE ‘PINOY HENYO’ GAME, ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS WILL LEAD TO USEFUL DATA. THIS DATA, WHEN PROCESSED CORRECTLY, SHOULD LEAD US TO LOGICAL AND ACCURATE CONCLUSIONS.

  14. ASKING QUESTIONS THAT ARE VAGUE OR TOO GENERAL MIGHT LEAD TO AMBIGUOUS RESPONSES. THIS WILL DEFINITELY MAKE IT HARDER TO ARRIVE AT LOGICAL AND ACCURATE CONCLUSIONS.

  15. RESEARCH PAPER: DEVELOPING YOUR RESEARCH STRATEGY • CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS: • find an expert in your chosen field/area or someone constantly immersed in it • he/she has to be knowledgeable, reliable & available

  16. RESEARCH PAPER: DEVELOPING YOUR RESEARCH STRATEGY • Remember that an Interview question must be brief, clear and focused. • In other words, be direct to the point, do not use ambiguous (malabo) terms, and ask one question at a time.

  17. RESEARCH PAPER: DEVELOPING YOUR RESEARCH STRATEGY • Always take notes when interviewing people. (DUH?!) • Do this rapidly, accurately and unobtrusively. • You may record it on paper, on a video tape or on a digital device.

  18. TASK: SW Directions: • Use the worksheet on page 45 to begin planning for an interview for your topic. Remember to ask BRIEF, CLEAR & FOCUSED questions ARRANGED IN LOGICAL ORDER. • Think of 10-15 questions to ask in your interview. • Format: Size 1 • Submission: End of the session

  19. ASSIGNMENT • Re-read pp. 49-76 of the Anvil guide to Research Paper Writing (Chapter 5 – Compiling a Research Bibliography)

  20. REMEMBER • Achieving success in an interview entails asking the right questions, asking these the right way, and at the right time. Perhaps the same can be said about practically everything else in our lives.
