  24. A SHIELD ABOUT ME (based on Psalm 3:3) by D. Thomas & C. Williams Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me. You’re my glory, You’re the lifter of my head. Hallelujah, hallelujah hallelujah, You’re the lifter of my head.

  25. Why should we believe the Bible above any other truth source, religious writing, or even human reasoning?

  26. “If the Bible is true and God does exist, then we will someday stand before Almighty God to be judged by Him as to our eternal destiny. If the Bible is not true and God does not exist, then we are free to live as we please . . . ‘Is the Bible true?’ is of the greatest possible importance, whether we admit it or not.” Dr. Grant Jeffery in The Signature of God

  27. “Blessed is the man . . . whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3

  28. “God has condescended to become an author, and yet people will not read His writings.” George Whitefield

  29. The Reason The Saints Believe The Bible Hebrews 4:12-13 Pastor John 27 August 2017

  30. The Big Picture . . . • Everybody has a worldview.

  31. “The sum total of our beliefs about the world, the big picture that directs our daily decisions and actions.” Chuck Colson in How Now Shall We Live? Our fundamental beliefs determine our decisions and the ultimate course of our lives.

  32. The Big Picture . . . • Everybody has a worldview. • There are only two basic worldviews – a Christian worldview and a non-Christian worldview. • The Christians worldview is based upon the Bible being the ultimate eternal truth.

  33. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 1 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) “Your word is truth.” John 17:17

  34. Compelling reasons to believe, trust, and treasure the Bible as God’s Word: • The Bible presents a unified story line.

  35. A book that is actually 66 books in one.  • Written over a period of 1500 years. • Written by 40 different authors. • Written on 3 different continents (Europe, Africa, Asia) • Written in 3 different languages (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic) • Written about many controversial topics. • There is a beautiful and undeniable unity to the entire Bible.

  36. Compelling reasons to believe, trust, and treasure the Bible as God’s Word: • The Bible presents a unified story line. • The Bible has more historical documentation than any other book from antiquity.

  37. The trustworthiness of any ancient historical account is based on the evidence of that account. • The evidence must come from ancient documents and manuscripts – there must be documentation!

  38. Do we have ancient documents and manuscripts supporting the New and Old Testaments? Julius Caesar – earliest manuscripts written 1000 after Caesar lived; only 10 manuscripts exist. Plato – earliest manuscript 1300 years after Plato lived; only 7 manuscripts exist. Homer – earlier manuscripts 500 years after Homer lived; 643 manuscripts exist.

  39. The New Testament – 24,000 partial and full manuscripts; earliest one dating from just 35 years after the book of Revelation was written. The Old Testament – Dead Sea Scrolls – fragments of almost every book in the Old Testament dating back to 150 BC which was only 200 years after the last event of the Old Testament.

  40. No other book from the ancient world has as much manuscript support or is tied as closely to the original event as the Bible!

  41. “Compared with other ancient writings, the Bible has more manuscript to support it than any ten pieces of classical literature combined. No other document of antiquity even begins to approach such numbers.” Josh McDowell “No archeological discovery has ever invalidated a biblical reference . . . archaeology continues to confirm a clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible.” Dr. Nelson Glueck

  42. “It must be extremely significant that, in view of the great mass of corroborative evidence regarding biblical history of these periods, there exists today not one unquestionable find of archeology that proves the Bible to be in error at any point.” Dr. Henry Morris “Our faith is tied to facts.” Erwin Lutzer

  43. Compelling reasons to believe, trust, and treasure the Bible as God’s Word: • The Bible presents a unified story line. • The Bible has more historical documentation than any other book from antiquity. • The Bible contained truth even before that truth was discovered.

  44. “It is illogical to think that the God who created a universe that operates according to scientific principles He built into it would not communicate it in a scientifically accurate way.”
