  1. Fresh design ideas from 10 urban Indian kitchens 1. Island cooking A streamlined kitchen balances the cabinets on two sides with a centralized cooking space on an island. The different functions (preparation, cooking, and storage) are segregated to design free-flowing workspace. The half-open structure of the stove island unit alone creates an abstract statement – simple, yet effective. 2. Cascading platforms Waterfall counters (when the vertical counter-top turns perpendicularly down to reach the ground on the shorter sides) look beautiful and this trend ought to stay. Here, beautiful shadows created due to the row of pendants and cove lights above the island bring warmth to the crisp white setting. Spotless, handle-free cabinets give a clean and streamlined look to space. For an uncluttered look, it was clever of them to camouflage the hood behind cabinet doors. 3. Statement backsplash A neutral-colored (white, black and brown) kitchen punched with vibrant hues through patchwork backsplash tiles. Hidden lights under the overhead cabinets and platform drawers add to the vivacity. 4. Going handle less Absence of handles equals sleek cabinets and cupboards. Handleless cabinets also enhance and highlight the textures of the cupboard surfaces. A colorful patterned mosaic backsplash and duo-tone wall treatment accents this kitchen. 5. Planning for less clutter Light tones, high tiling, storage cabinets at the bottom, as opposed to being on the top, combine to give this space a breezy appeal. The wall tiles themselves serve as a backsplash and the floating open shelf allows minimal storage above. 6. Comprehensive A minimalist kitchen is a kind I dream of having in the future. The symmetric layout, the crisp white vertical surfaces, grey floor and wood as a surprise element bring everything together efficiently.

  2. 7. Open or not? Full-height glazing and large glass openings give a kitchen an open feel. The dark, patterned floor and exposed concrete ceiling set the kitchen apart from the other areas. 8. Galley galore A galley layout provides ample modular storage and counter space to a kitchen space. The passage opens the modest kitchen up to an adjacent dining area. 9. Modular storage Powered with both style and practicality, modular kitchens are easy to personalize and operate. 10. Modish and warm A central cooking area and plenty of storage behind one, within reach. Un-ornamented textures create a chic decor uplifted with warm panel lights and white walls gives out a beautiful design.
