  2. Prenatal Development • The whole process of pregnancy. • Actual full term or pregnancy is 38 weeks • Referred to as 40 weeks in clinical terms • 2 week prior to conception taken into account • Ie the timing is taken from the start of the mothers last period.

  3. Key stages • Fertilisation • Sperm meets Egg

  4. Key stages • Germinal Stage • Between fertilisation and implantation

  5. Key Stages • Embryonic Stage • After implantation for approximately 2 months • Until basic structures are formed

  6. Key Stage • Foetal Stage • Starts at the 11 week until birth • All basic structures are formed, now its just growth

  7. Key Stages • Birth • Happens in 3 stages • Labour • Dilation of the birth canal • Delivery • Baby passes through the birth canal • After Birth • The placenta is passed out
