    3. Introduction The California missions were built because the Spanish wanted to teach the Indians about their religion. The Spanish government was the one responsible for bringing the missions to California. All the missions were built along a road called the El Camino Real which means, Royal highway. The Spanish government was the one responsible for bringing the missions to California.

    4. Area in which the mission was built Mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad is located in Monterey. At this mission in the summer the climate is dry, hot and windy in winter its very chilly. Ohlone and Salinas Indians lived near the property of Nuestra Soledad. Two natural resources that are near the mission are the Monterey bay and Salinas river.

    5. Life on the mission Life on the mission started out with the ringing of the church bells at 6:00 a.m. Then the Indians gathered for morning pray and shortly after breakfast was served. After breakfast anther bell rang to tell all the Indians it was time to work. When noon came a bell rang to signal it was time for bunch. 1:00 p.m. till 3:00p.m. there was a rest period called a siesta. 5:00 p.m. was evening prayer followed by free time. Women were supposed to go to bed at 8:00 and men at 9:00.

    6. Life on the mission of page two Some chores that were performed on the mission was weaving blankets, and cloth making candles, soaps, blacksmith and farming were just a few chores. The Ohlone preformed the work at Nuestra Senora de la Soledad. Plants and animals that were raised at the mission were cattle, sheep, corn , wheat.

    7. The mission today Mission Nuesrta de la Soledad is currently used for tourisms and education. The mission was restored by a group of women called the Native daughters of the Golden West in 1952. Shortly after the Indians' built a new church in 1808 a sires of horrible events happened in 1824 a flood came and damaged the church and sacristy the Indian's repaired the church. A year later they built a new sacristy ,in 1832 anther flood came and destroyed the church. By 1865 only the remains were left.
