WHO WE ARE • In 1911, Furness Withy (formed 1891), acquired a large shareholding in Houlder Brothers, both companies retaining their own identities until … • 1963 when the company Furness Houlder Insurance, Lloyd’s Broker, was formed out of the insurance departments of Furness and Houlder following Furness Withy taking a controlling interest in Houlder Brothers

In 1980 Furness Withy was purchased by the C Y Tung Group in Hong Kong and Furness Houlder Insurance continued unchanged. • 1988 Furness Withy and Houlder parted company and China Merchants became a major shareholder. At this time we completed a full circle and became known as Houlder Insurance - with new livery. • Houlder Insurance (Far East) in Hong Kong and Beijing is a sister company and is one of the largest marine brokers in Hong Kong.
