  3. Location • located at 5th Avenue & 50th Street • near the famous department store, Saks Fifth Avenue • there are a great deal of hotels along 5th Avenue if you need lodging nearby

  4. History • construction was begun in 1858 by Archbishop John Hughes • construction stopped during the Civil War • it officially opened its doors to worshippers on May, 1879

  5. Architectural Features • is about 405 feet long • is 274 feet wide • seats about 2,200 people • famous Archbishops of New York are buried in a crypt under the high altar
