  2. Main Classes Crustaceans Insects Arachnids Arthropods exist in all habitats of the world, and are the most diverse phyla. Two out of three species are arthropods.

  3. Germ Layers & Symmetry Triploblastic- 3 germ layers Bilateral symmetry They are coelomates. The coelom is mainly around their excretory and reproductive systems.

  4. Digestive Tract Tube-like digestive tract, meaning that it has a mouth and an anus.

  5. Body Structures They have a segmented body plan with appendages on each segments. Exoskeleton Invertebrates Jointed appendages

  6. Cephalization Well developed cephalization with sensory organs. They have motor and sensory nerves.

  7. Circulatory System Arthropods have open circulatory systems that have one path for both blood as well as all other fluids that provide nutrients. The liquid is called hemolymph.

  8. Respiratory System Crustaceans- gills. Insects- tracheae, which delivers oxygen directly to the cells. Arachnids- tracheae and book lungs.

  9. Reproduction Most arthropods have sexual reproduction, and most lay eggs.
