  2. Here’s what you can create with Kidspiration Show a visual picture of how ideas interrelate to one another. Create an outline for documents, PowerPoint presentations and speeches. Looking at both viewpoints: Diagram and Outline Web - A web is a map showing how things relate to each other - main idea at the center with different categories of information branching from the main idea - ideas, facts, and information branch from the categories to support them - story analysis- brainstorming. Idea Map - brainstorming with the main idea in the center and other ideas radiate out from the main idea. You can use this map when problem solving, report writing or visions. Concept Map - This is a diagram showing a concept beginning with the highest and moving down to the more specific details to be used with historical concepts and scientific concepts.   5. Step by Step Steps towards using Inspiration: Inspiration opens in the Diagram View by default. The starting point is the Main idea symbol in the center of the screen. The main idea is typed in the symbol and ideas are added to the Main idea. A Symbol palette runs along the left side of the screen. It contains libraries of symbols. Click on View on the menu bar and select symbol Palette or press the F8 key to toggle back and forth. The Diagram tool bar runs across the top of the screen. It contains tools to add and arrange symbols and links. The Draw tool bar runs across the bottom of the screen. It contains tools to move symbols, color text and symbols, and draw shapes. A Status bar runs across the screen below the Drawtool bar. It displays the text in a symbol when the cursor is positioned over the symbol. Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

  6. Steps Continues… • Zoom buttons (lower left corner) • Zoom out button show more of the diagram. The symbols appear smaller. You can see more of the page for working on the diagram. • Zoom in button makes the diagram larger. The symbols and text appear larger • Percentage box - select the percentage for viewing. • Main idea symbol • Enter text • Press Shift + Return (Enter) to end text entry • The idea symbol • Top left handle - opens the Notes text window • Top right handle - opens a Child window • Bottom left handle - hides or shows sub-symbols • Bottom right handle - drag to resize the symbol • Saving a diagram • Save frequently • The file is saved as the Main idea unless you rename it Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

How to add, edit and print Adding an idea Be sure the Main idea is selected Click on an arrow on the Horizontal and Vertical Create button or the Diagonal Create button A new symbol appears in the direction selected and is connected to the Main idea by a Link Text can be entered in anew symbol Press Shift + Return (Enter) to end text entry Editing text Double-click the text in the symbol that needs editing Edit the text in the symbol Printing a diagram Click on file on the menu bar and select Print Options Select Fit to 1 Page Click OK Click on File on the menu bar and select Print Preview Click Print If the text is shortened on a PC, click on format on the menu bar and select Printer Fonts Wrap Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

RapidFire Tool & Much More RapidFire Tool Click on the symbol to which you want to add an idea Click on the RapidFire button on the Diagram tool bar The RapidFire icon appears in the selected symbol Type ideas into the selected symbol one at a time After each idea press the Return (Enter) key Each idea is placed in a new symbol in the diagram Click on the RapidFire button to turn it off. Adding an unconnected idea Add a symbol that can be connected to an idea at a later time Click in the open area on the diagram Type text A symbol appears around the text The symbol is not linked to any other symbol Repositioning a symbol Click and drag a symbol to where you want it Click outside of the diagram to deselect Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

Linking Unconnected Ideas Linking unconnected symbols Click on the Link button on the Diagram tool bar The pointer turns into a double line Click on the primary symbol - the symbol you want to draw the link from Click on the secondary symbol - the symbol you want to draw the link to The link appears and the arrow head points to the secondary symbol Click on the Link button to turn it off Linking unconnected symbols (Method 2) Click on the primary symbol - the symbol you want to draw the link from Click on the diamond-shaped handle where you want to begin the link Drag to the secondary idea symbol Position the pointer where you want the link to go on the secondary idea symbol Release the mouse Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

Changing, Moving and Deleting Changing symbols Click on the desired idea symbol to select it Click on the desired symbol on the symbol palette To change several symbols, press the Shift key and click on all the symbols you want to change Click on the desired symbol on the Symbol palette Moving the diagram Click on the Position button on the Diagram tool bar The pointer becomes a hand Click in the diagram and drag it to see the section needed Click on Edit on the menu bar and select Select Main idea to position the Main idea symbol in the center of the screen. Changing the background color Click on Effect on the menu bar Select Background Color Select a color Deleting a symbol and its links Click on the symbol to select it Press the Delete on Backspace key You can also click on Edit on the menu bar and select Clear Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC

Changing font setting, coloring text and creating hyperlinks Changing font settings Click on Edit on the menu bar Choose Select All to make changes in all text Click on format on the menu bar and select Font - select a font You can also select size, style, and justification Coloring text, symbols, and links Click on Edit on the menu bar and choose Select - All Click on the Fill Color button on the Draw tool bar and select a fill color You can also make selections under the Effects menu on the menu bar Creating a hyperlink Highlight the text to which you want to assign the hyperlink Click on Utility on the menu bar and select Internet - URL Hyperlink Type the URL in the Hyperlink Address dialog box Click OK Kidspiration slide show created by Evelyn Ayum, RTC
