  2. Dzień Unii Europejskiej jest obchodzony 9 maja. Przypomina o dacie 9 maja 1950 roku, kiedy Robert Schuman, francuski minister spraw zagranicznych w latach 1948 - 1952, ogłosił swoją deklarację - plan Schumana. Plan ten dotyczył powołania pierwszej organizacji koordynującej współpracę państw w górnictwie i hutnictwie, Europejskiej Wspólnoty Węgla i Stali.
