The profile of guidance practitioners in DK • Full – time guidance professionals in centers for young people in transition between compulsory education and youth education • Fulltime guidance professionals in centers for young people in transition between youth education and higher education • Full time guidance professionals in the employment sector • Part – time guidance professionals in the education sector – youth education, higher education, adult learning

  3. The Danish Guidance Reforms • Concentration of services • Clearer responsibilities for provision and coordination • Guidance Centers for young people in transition • Stronger emphasis on Professionalisation Quality Development and Quality Assurance

  4. Training of guidance practitioners • Before 2004 – patchy provision, approximately 20 sector based courses for different target groups • After 2004 – cross sectoral provision, academic mainstreaming of courses into diploma programme and masters programme

  5. The situation in 2008 • One general diploma programme in careers guidance for all groups of practitioners, 60 ECTS – points • Five University Colleges in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Sorø, Odense and Esbjerg offers the programme • 700 – 800 participants pr. year • Masters programme at the Danish University of Education, 30 – 50 participants pr. year • Professional bachelor programme in public administration with specialization in careers guidance

  6. The profile of the diploma programme • 5 modules (9 ECTS) and a dissertation (15 ECTS) • 3 of the modules are compulsory • 2 of the modules are optional – adressing specific issues in specific sectors • Full time provision – part time provision, most students are parttimers, integrating training with their professional career

  7. Requirements of training • Guidance professionals within centers must complete the full diploma programme • Guidance professionals in education must complete 4 modules (the three compulsory and one optional) • Guidance professionals in employment meet no specific requirements
