Community Environment: • Campus of DePauw University is a primary economic driver for the surrounding Greencastle community • New facility provides out reach from the university to the community at large through performances, lectures and other events • Situated in the center of campus, the facility has become a student gathering spot focused around the arts • Creates the opportunity to expose individuals of all academic programs to the arts • Spaces throughout the facility have been designed to allow for interdisciplinary conversations to allow the building to become a community

Learning Environment: New additions provide rehearsal and learning spaces for the School of Music and Department of Communications and Theatre Purpose-built rehearsal spaces designed to allow learning through hands on participation in performances and rehearsal Faculty studios designed to allow for one-on-one learning between students and faculty State-of-the-art recording studio allows students to learns hands on about the art of sound engineering Information Commons provides an interdisciplinary gathering area focused around media collections Informal gathering areas throughout provide areas for interdisciplinary study and collaboration

Physical Environment: • Addition designed to be semi-transparent veil wrapping around the existing massive windowless structure. • Transparency of the skin allows the performances within to be showcased to the world outside the structure. • Aesthetics engage the users to provide inspiration and background for performances • Like the performers inside, the building gracefully interacts with its surroundings • Every space within was designed to focus on providing the best practices learning environments

  6. Planning Process: Process involved master planning for all current and future programmatic needs. Design team consisted of architects, engineers, faculty and administration “Town Hall” meetings were held with faculty, students, and interested community members to solicit feedback Benefactors and university administration were actively involved in visioning and design process Computer-generated three-dimensional images Photo of completed projects
