  1. OASIS UBL TC Meeting Jon Bosak, Sun Microsystems Chair, OASIS UBL Technical Committee Opening Plenary Burlington, Massachusetts 1 October 2002

  2. Agenda • Roll call • Orientation • SC updates (Maler, McGrath, Probert, Gregory, Bosak) • CCTS update • Discussion of role of CCTS in UBL • Discussion of UN/CEFACT proposal • Discussion of deliverable suite and schedule • Segue to: Joint NDR/LC session

  3. Data standards: 3300 BC

  4. EDI, ebXML, UBL

  5. UBL and vertical standards

  6. UBL as a hub format One adapter interfaces each party to the common suppliers ... ... or tax authorities or customs agents or accountants ...

  7. Priorities for this meeting • Resolve NDR issues • Prepare to re-release Library with final form syntax • Next meeting (18-21 November): prepare final form syntax

  8. Subcommittee reports • Library Content • Naming and Design Rules • Tools and Techniques • Context Drivers • Context Methodology • Administrative • Marketing • Liaison

  9. SC report: Context Methodology • Matt Gertner has resigned chairmanship • Are there enough people willing to work on this right now, or shall we put CM on hold while we work on NDR and LC?

  10. SC report: Administrative • Preliminary comment: our technical subcommittee work is world class! • We have a new set of meeting/membership rules • I’m now going to start warning and then eliminating nonactive members

  11. SC report: Marketing • CogniTran has agreed to print brochures for the XML 2002 conference (at which I will be keynoting) • I have a pending AI to draft a UBL brochure • This will be reviewed by the MSC via email

  12. SC report: Liaison (1) • Good news: great liaison membership • ACORD (insurance) • ARTS (retail sales) • e.centre (UK ecommerce standards) • EIDX (electronics) • HL7 (healthcare) • NACS (convenience stores) • RosettaNet (information technology) • SWIFT (banking) • VCA (optical supplies) • XBRL (accounting) • X12 (EDI) • UN/EDIFACT (EDI)

  13. SC report: Liaison (2) • Bad (?) news: not much input this review cycle • Short review cycle (and false start) • Did not align gracefully with the various meeting schedules • The vertical industry standards organizations are experiencing the same resource problems as the rest of us • Twenty years of EDI, four years of xCBL, and a year of UBL hasn’t left much to add to the components • I think that input will vastly increase once we turn early implementers loose on some finished schemas • Silver lining: we can concentrate on finishing NDR

  14. This week’s agenda • Tuesday: Joint NDR/LC 3-5 p.m. • Wednesday: SC breakouts 9-3, joint 3-5; lunch 12:30-1:30 • Thursday: SC breakouts 9-3, joint 3-5; lunch 12:30-1:30; wine & cheese 5-6; dinner • Friday: SC breakouts 9-12; lunch 12-1; joint 1-3, plenary 3-5 • Saturday: Leave town
