  1. Looking for a Holiday: Best Arizona Wineries

  2. The name Arizona is derived from the Spanish name, Arizonac, which means a small spring. This place is best known for its deserts, xerophytic plants, and exceptionally extreme summers.

  3. Arizona is also home to the Monument Valley, the Petrified Forest National Park, and the wonderful Grand Canyon. Most of the metro population is concentrated in the city of Phoenix, which is the largest and the capital city of Arizona.

  4. Viticulture in Arizona Viticulture is the branch of science that deals with the plantation and production of grapes. It is a subdivision of horticulture. The place, where grapes are grown, is known as a vineyard, and the process of making wine out of grapes is known as winemaking.

  5. The viticulturists are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the crops for insects and pests, crop management, irrigation practices, fertilizing and harvesting. Usually, the viticulturists are closely involved with the winemaking team as they can truly guide the later with various timelines in the process.

  6. Climate is the most important and deciding factor for growing good quality grapes for wine making. Summers are ideal for ripening of the fruit whereas ideal winters act as a resting phase for the grapevine.

  7. Arizona Wine The Arizona Wine is made up of grapes that are grown in the state of Arizona itself. The process is of two types, which leads to the making of two types of wines- sparkling and still wine. The still wine is prepared without inducing the process of carbonation and the wine thus produced free of any carbon content. Whereas, the sparkling wine gets its sparkle from the process of carbonation, which is either injected or is produced naturally.

  8. Process of Winemaking The process of wine making is more of a natural science and can be divided into the following steps: Harvesting: The grapes are either plucked manually or mechanically using big tractors. This is decided depending on the size of the vineyard and the time available for harvesting the fruits.

  9. Crushing and fermentation: Tiny berries are gently squeezed to peel them off, and the contents are then extracted out. The extracts thus produced are then fermented using cultured yeast to produce alcohol.

  10. Pressing: The process of pressing is done to separate the juice so produced from the skin peel of grapes. Cold Stabilization: This is done to separate the tartrate crystals produced from the wine. If, not done properly, these crystals may appear as grains of sand in the wine.

  11. Secondary Fermentation & Bulk Ageing: Very slow fermentation continuing for a period of around three to six months is carried out before the final blending and fining.

  12. Best Arizona Wineries The typical summer climate of Arizona adds to the quality of both the grapes and the wine produced from them.
