  4. A church is a community of believers who worship God together and provide spiritual nourishment to its members. Jesus wanted to prepare his disciples to such a loving community by teaching them how to ensure healthy relationships in the church.

  7. NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • Self-Righteous Pharisees (Mark 7:9-13; Matthew 15:3-6; Luke 18:9-14) “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!” (Mark 7:9)

  8. NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • Self-Righteous Pharisees (Mark 7:9-13; Matthew 15:3-6; Luke 18:9-14) “For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,’ and, 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.” (Mark 7:10)

NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • Self-Righteous Pharisees (Mark 7:9-13; Matthew 15:3-6; Luke 18:9-14) “But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother.” (Mark 7:11-12)

  13. NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • We shall be judged (v.1) “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” • There is a final judgment. • We still sin.

  14. NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • We are being judged (v.2) “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

  15. NO to Hypocritical Judgment (vv. 1-5). • We cannot judge with bad ‘eyes’ (v.3-5)

  27. YES to Perceptive Judgment (vv. 6-12). • We have a guiding principle (v. 12) “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

  28. “The person who practices the Golden Rule refuses to say or do anything that would harm himself or others. If our judging of others is not governed by this principle, we will become proud and critical, and our own spiritual character will degenerate.” (Warren Wiersbe)
