  2. Goal • Our school had an art exhibition in 2009. • Every class made their own project. • Our class had its own project, which was about spring in Finland

  3. Start • We made a visit to forest in the spring to experience the finnish nature with all senses • We observed birches and how they look

  4. Planning • In a classroom we designed together a birch forest: each student makes a part of it. • We listened to the spring music • We looked for inspiration also in books and studied how the birch and spring in Finland look like

  5. The Work • Teacherplanned the works’ papersizesothattheywouldfit to the placetheywere to put on display • Teacher made a mark on the paperwhere the birchbegins. • Pupilsdrew the trunk,branches and leaves as well as possibleanimalswithblackpencil • The trunkwascolouredwith white, brancheswithblackand leaveswithgreencrayon. • Watercolourpaperwasmoistened and paintedgreen. Pupilsmixed the coloursfromblue and yellowwatercolour

  6. Finishing touches • Children picked holes with a needle around the leaves • Leaves were sewn with thread • All the works were pieced together • We discussed how the collage looked like and enjoyed the outcome • At the art exhibition parents had the opportunity to see the works
