  1. Matthew 5:43-48

  2. Which Beatitude? • Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness sake • Blessed are the merciful • Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake • Blessed are those who mourn

  3. Blessed are… • Blessed are the poor in spirit • For theirs is the kingdom of heaven • Blessed are those who mourn • For they shall be comforted • Blessed are the meek • For they shall inherit the earth • Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness • For they shall be filled

  4. Blessed are… • Blessed are the merciful • For they shall obtain mercy • Blessed are the pure in heart • For they shall see God • Blessed are the peacemakers • For they shall be called sons of God

  5. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven

  6. What does it mean? • Persecuted: •  to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict; specifically: to cause to suffer because of belief • Righteousness: • When you sincerely strive to do God’s will

  7. When are we Persecuted? • When we fast and people say things • When we stand up against cursing, lying, or other sins • When we choose not to have a boyfriend or girlfriend • When we don’t go to parties or go to games on Sunday that take us away from church • When we get made fun of for loving those who have no one else

  8. What is the reward? When they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His[d]name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. Acts 5:40

  9. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10
