  10. Mr. Hunt’s Analysis • Observation 1: Most growth occurred amongst students who ended the 1st marking period at the lower end of the grading spectrum. 63% of this group moved from the below basic category (D, F) into the basic category (C). The remaining 37% moved from the basic category (C) into the proficient (B, A-) or advanced category (A, A+)

  11. Observation 2: 92% of the decreasing scores this term resulted as students moved from the advanced category into the proficient category – (A to B drop).

  12. Observation 3: A direct correlation between overall success (determined by the final score) and student practice (determined by the number of successful practice assignments submitted) was observed. By the numbers: Students scoring below basic completed on average 21% of the assigned practice compared to 84% of the students who reached the basic or higher category. Students who practice are able to identify concerns and proactively work with the instructor to adjust where and when needed.

  13. Observation 4: A direct correlation between overall success and class attendance was observed. By the numbers: Students scoring below basic were absent from class 58% of the time more than their peers who scored basic or higher. Students absent from class must understand that papers are not going to instruct, that class discussions and meaningful practice alongside the instructor will identify areas of concern and offer strategies for assistance. .

  14. What does this mean for me? Students who score below the statistical average should revisit the following areas: • have I completed my practice assignments? • have I identified areas of concern? • have I sought assistance in areas of weakness? - how did I approach and/or study for exams?

  15. What Now • The year is half over. Routines need to be adjusted to ensure that you are in control of your learning. • Your teachers want to help. Ask appropriate questions, seek assistance, and work together to address concerns. ** Let’s look forward to a great second half of the year! **
