  3. John 21:1-25 • The Secret of Success in the service of the LORD. • 3 Pictures • 1. Fisher of men. • 2. Shepherd of God’s sheep. • 3. Disciple of Jesus.

  4. 1. Fishers of Men • Try fishing without Jesus. FAILURE. • Obey Jesus. FRUITFULNESS. • The difference between failure and success is the width of the boat!

  5. 1. Fishers of Men • Fishermen catch living fish and the fish die. • Fishers of men catch those who are dead in trespasses and sin, and they receive life in Christ!!!!

  6. 2. Shepherds of God’s Sheep • John 21:15-17. • Peter had denied Jesus 3 times publicly. • Now Jesus gets him to affirm Him 3 times publicly.

  7. 2. Shepherds of God’s Sheep (15) • “Do you truly love Me more then these?” • AGAPE= self-sacrificing love, one-way love. • “You know that I love you.” • PHILEO=brotherly love, reciprocal 2-way love. • “Feed my lambs.”

  8. 2. Shepherds of God’s Sheep (16) • “Do you truly love me?” • AGAPE • “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” • PHILEO • “Take care of my sheep.” • SHEPHERD My sheep.

  9. 2. Shepherds of God’s Sheep (17) • “Do you love me?” • PHILEO • “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” • PHILEO • “Feed my sheep.”

  10. 1 Peter 5:2-3 • “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be…being examples to the flock.”

  11. 3. Disciples of Jesus (18-25) • “Follow me.” (19) • Lit. “keep on following me.” • “Lord, what about him?” • “Follow me.” (22) • Don’t take your eyes off of Jesus. Remember when Peter was walking on water (Matt. 14:30)?

  12. 3. Disciples of Jesus • Follow Jesus all your life—even until death.

  13. John 21:25 • “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
