  1. AP US History Without looking at your documents… how could you possibly pre-bucket the answer to the DBQ question?

  2. DBQ • From 1775 to 1830, many African Americans gained freedom from slavery, yet during the same period the institution of slavery expanded. Explain why both of these changes too place. Analyze the ways that both free African Americans and enslaved African Americans responded to the challenges confronting them?

  3. Prebucket… • How could you organize the response into a 5 paragraph format? • If you were to answer the question like a Free Response Question, what would be some of the major areas that you could address… list them.

  4. Group Time • Get with your group and begin examining the documents. • What are each one of the documents addressing… use this format to help: • Answer these questions for every document.

  5. Document Analysis • 1.Source & Author • 2.Possible Author bias • 3.What facts can you learn from the document? • 4.What inferences can you make about the document? • 5.What’s the main idea of the document? • 6.How does the document help answer the question? • 7.What bucket does it belong to?

  6. Thesis Writing • Using the chicken foot graphic organizer develop a working thesis. • Thesis should be concise, arguable and provable. • Can include and organizing statement. • Afterwards, start your rough copy.
