  1. Bikram Yoga: The Hot Yoga

  2. There are many types of yoga available for new learners and experts who want to extend their knowledge and performance of yoga. One of the latest trends in this field of exercise and fitness workout is Bikram yoga. Let's discuss what this fitness workout is and the styles and poses incorporated in it.

  3. What is Bikram Yoga? Founded by Bikram Choudhury, Bikram yoga is a type of yoga that is also called "hot yoga", simply because it is practiced in a heated room. This form involves performing a series of 26 poses inside a room where the temperature is 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Experts describe this type of yoga as a modernized form as compared to the traditional forms.

  4. Why Bikram Yoga? Just like other types of yoga, Bikram yoga effectively stretches muscles, tendons and ligaments in a sequence that would best benefit the students or performers. Practitioners of this fitness workout note that their stress levels are significantly reduced and their blood circulation becomes better after, or even during, the practice of this fitness workout. Chronically-ill people can also benefit from it since the yoga poses are aimed at relieving and reducing the symptoms. In addition, this type is an effective fitness workout for those who want to lose weight and achieve more developed muscles. Body detoxification is also aided by this fitness workout.

  5. The Principle Behind Bikram yoga works by the principle of Tourniquet Effect. Choudhury claims that it is a scientific type of yoga as it necessitates the performance of stretching, balancing via gravity, and pressure creation in one pose. The pressure is created when the stretches prompt the body to cut the blood supply in the blood vessels. The tourniquet effect (or lock gate effect) occurs when position of the person changes. This leads to the rush towards the arteries and veins, manually flushing the toxins and other harmful substances in the blood circulation.

  6. Yoga in a Heated Room As mentioned, one of the most essential requirements to successful perform the Bikram yoga style is practicing the poses inside a heated room. Choudhury explained that the body's flexibility increases when a person is exposed in a heated place. And because the poses require flexible movements, doing it in a heated room is the best option. This is also the reason why it's called "hot yoga", and this term also applies to any form of yoga that is performed in a heated room.

  7. The Hot Yoga Poses All Bikram yoga poses are performed twice within a specific time period set by the instructor. Each hot yoga session is begun by practicing standing postures, back and forward bends, and then the twists. In every pose, "Kapalabhati breath" or "the blowing in firm" (breathing technique) is done.
