  2. Function • It is the sensory system for vision. • It is very sensitive to a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. • The human visual system is a complex process that involve the eye and the brain. • It is one of the most delicated organs in the body.

  3. Structure of Visual System The eye structure's parts include the Cornea, Iris, Pupil, Lens, Vitreous gel, Optic nerve, Macula, Fovea, Retina.

  4. How do they work? • Retina- tissue that is located at the back of the eye and is very sensitive. It changes light into electrical impulses which get sent to the brain. • Optic nerve- a group of more than one million nerve fibers that sends messages from the retina directly to the brain. • Pupil- the opening at the center of the Iris. • Iris- colored part of the eye that allows how much amount of light enters the eye.

  5. Lens- clear part of eye that is behind the iris. • Vitreous gel- a clear gel that is inside your eye. • Cornea- clear outer part of the eye’s focusing system that is located at the front of the eye. • Fovea- it gives the sharpest vision and is located at the center of the macula. • Macula- sensitive part that gives central vision to retina.

  6. Diseases/Disorders Broken blood vessel • This can happen when tiny blood vessels break from straining, lifting, rubbing, or it simply just happened. • if that happens you should go to the eye doctor. There isn't really a treatment for this.

  7. Retinal Detachment • It is a very serious condition that happens when the retina gets separated from the tissue that surrounds it. • Since the retina is detached, it cant work properly and can cause permanent lose of vision if it is not fixed properly. • you can treat it with laser or freezing treatment, Pneumatic retinopexy, scleralbuckle, or Vitrectomy.
