  1. Year 10 Curriculum Evening Welcome from Jane Aplin, Headteacher Year 10 Key Information How to help your child succeed in Maths, English and Science

  2. A/S Support Quiet study area available until 4.00 every day in the library. Library is also open before school, at break and lunch. Access to computers, printers and additional study resources. Regular revision has a significant impact on results!

  3. Extra-Curricular Activities

  5. Mock Exams • Mocks will start on Tuesday 25thFebruary 2020. • Hayley Hockley (SENCO) is available to discuss exam access arrangements and other support for SEND students.

  6.   7. Resourced Provision for Dyslexia • 16 places for students with an EHCP for dyslexia (allocated through Hampshire County Council) • KS3: Multi – Sensory Language programme and Phonics skills • KS4: Revision, note – taking and study skills alongside further teaching of independent strategies. • Outreach work for students with dyslexia who do not meet the criteria for a place in the Resourced Provision • Work with departments across the school to ensure dyslexia-friendly teaching in every classroom. Access Arrangements • We have a qualified assessor for Access arrangements in school and there is a referral process. • The deadline for Access Arrangement applications for Year 10 is: June 2020 (after the summer mock exams.) • If you have any queries or concerns please come and see me at the end or email Mrs Smith for further information: h.smith@Cranbourne.hants.sch.uk

  12. English & Maths (Post-16) • If students fail to achieve at least a 4 grade at GCSE, they will have to retake in Year 12 and possibly Year 13. • This can impact on options available Post-16.

  13. English, Maths and Science Top Tips

  14. How to support your child in English Language and English Literature. • Encourage regular reading of key texts at home. • Regularly use the revision PiXLapp. • Access the revision resources available on the English Revision Hub website (from June 2020). • Use online revision sites such as BBC Bitesize , BBC Revisewise, Spark notes • Use the Word of the Day app to develop vocabulary.

  15. Maths GCSE • Start revision early. • Regular use of the revision PiXL app. • Ensure completion of all homework as published on SMHW. • Take all opportunities offered for example by ensuring the students attend extra clinics. • Get your child to use the recommended calculator.

  16. Login details have been issued to all students. If they have forgotten their login details they will need to speak to their Maths teacher.

  17. GCSE Science • Use revision guides to make flash cards. • Learn science formulae and regularly practice solving scientific calculations. • Use Educake to help revise and prepare for assessments and mocks. • Learn the meaning of key command words. • Regularly attend science revision sessions.

  18. AQA Revision Guides Higher and foundation tiers available through the finance office.

  19. We will be offering the opportunity for any Year 10 students to take part in work experience during February half term, next year. This is a great opportunity to gain real world experience of a workplace.
