Ancient Greece. A presentation by Owen and Sam G. Architecture. In ancient G reece, there were three main types of architecture. Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. The Doric is a simple pillar design with a square on top of a circle as the “crown.”

  2. Architecture • In ancient Greece, there were three main types of architecture. Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. • The Doric is a simple pillar design with a square on top of a circle as the “crown.” • The Ionic is easily recognized because of it’s scroll-like shape at the top of the pillar. • The Corinthian is decorated with fancy leaves and herbs.

Slavery • Some slaves had special jobs, such as miners, police officers, or archers. • Athens, Greece would not have even existed if it weren’t for slavery. • Slaves worked all day and did things for the wealthy such as cook, clean, and work in the fields. • Most slaves were captured prisoners of war.

  6. The Olympics • The first Olympic Games was in 776 B.C. • At first, only the Greece city states would compete in the Olympic Games. Sparta, Athens, Corinth, Argos, and Megara. • The Olympic Games were held only every two years in honor of the gods. • Some of the Ancient Olympic events were quite different from the ones we have today. Such as chariot racing and Pankration, which is a mixture of boxing and wrestling.

  8. Historians • There were three major historians in the time of Ancient Greece. • Herodotus, Xenophon, and Thucydides were the three big explorers in the time of Ancient Greece. • The first historian was Herodotus, but he died in 425 B.C.

Mythology • “The big three” were the three BIG gods in the time of Ancient Greece. • The big three consisted of Zeus, (the god of the skies and all gods) Poseidon, (the god of the seas) and Hades. (god of the Underworld). • They were brothers, and Zeus, being the oldest, sent Hades, the youngest brother, to rule the Underworld because of his evil ways. Poseidon was second in power because of Zeus, and had a beautiful golden palace in the sea.
